"Bunting" Square around or Pivot

By: Kathy
Add to Mixx!

When pivoting, the batter should have their hips
rotated to the point that their bellybutton is
facing the pitcher and their eyes are both facing
the pitcher as well. With the knees bent and the
bat held out in front and over the plate the batter
should be able to see the ball all the way to
the bat while raising or lowering the bat
to meet the ball. I would trust my son to bunt
any pitch (excluding a wild pitch) using that
method in a squeeze play. The squaring around
technique has it's place, but I've seen more
success with the pivot and drag methods for the
younger players. The younger players also find it
easier to pull back on a bad pitch so as not to
get a strike called on them with the pivot method.
This subject is making for a great debate(grin).
