Bunting in a blowout?
By: Tony
I concur with the majority of what you and Paul have said and your techniques. Especially when it comes to preparedness. I make a practice plan for every practice and make my line up with positions strategically assigned to the opposing team well before game time or gameday for that matter. However, the only thing I question is bunting with a big lead. The only reason I feel this way is because of a bad experience I had my second year I was coaching. My team was up 21-4 in the 3rd, runners on 2nd and 3rd. One of my boys that already had two doubles bunts without asking. Before my players get half way along the baselines the opposing coach came out of the dugout claiming what a jerk I was to be bunting, and trying to run up the score. The game ended there because he pulled his team off of the field. I am not saying that what you suggest is wrong, personally, I think it makes sense. But haven't you run into coaches like the one I mentioned?
