Who Are You?

By: Dan Long

Hi! I'm Dan Long, from Wilmington, DE. I'm 6'1, 215 lbs., Aquarius (oops- wrong BBS!!!) I've mostly been a lurker here, and have really enjoyed the discussions. I'll be 36 this weekend, have been married for 15 years, and have 2 kids, a boy who will be 12 soon, and a 10 year old girl. I'm a computer consultant, specializing in desktop and server hardware and software. I've been coaching since my son was 9, so I'm still a beginner compared to most of y'all. I also started coaching football this past fall, even though I have no experience, I really enjoy it. Since I went to every practice, the coach asked me to help out because he like my attitude with the kids. I played ball til I was 16. I am also a professional musician, and at that point in my life I felt it was time to make the decision between ball and music. Coaching now and going out and hitting around with my kids makes me wish I never quit, as I'd have a lot more to offer to the kids I coach. (I had a 70+ fastball when I was 14, who knows what could have happened!) Besides baseball and football, I enjoy playing with my band on weekends (we call ourselves "weekend warriors", doing the club circuit here in DE), messing with my computer, cooking, weightlifting (my goal is to bench 300 by July- I'm at 260 now). My son is an absolute baseball nut. He's really looking forward to his 12 yr old season. We've been conditioning all winter, lots of pushups, dips, light weights. He's a pretty big dude, 5'2 and 155 lbs. already- nose tackle on the football team. My daughter will be doing her second year of softball this year and told me she wants to be catcher. She's also been practicing pitching (fast pitch) and has developed a pretty decent arm. I keep telling her she could start on my baseball team but she doesn't like the idea of playing with all boys (at least for now!!!) I've enjoyed reading everyone's replies to this thread- it's cool to kind of get to know everyone a little bit!!
Dan
