Who Are You?

By: Randy Dykstra

Yes I am a engineer.... My name is Randy but all my login accounts etc usually contained my initials RAD and I got the nickname RAD-man and it stuck! I use my last name just because it is well known in BB circles and I always get to answer "Are you related to Lenny?" No, but we have talked about it.

I'm 40, two boys 11,8 - live in San Diego and I work for a large aerospace company designing avionics (computers to control airplanes)(Software and Systems) for military aircraft. For the last 4 years I've been working on UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) (robotic airplanes). I have flextime so most of the time, I can adjust my work schedule to my coacing activities.

I grew up in So Calif. and have a fairly athletic background, Waterpolo (NCAA championship team) Swimming and Volleyball were my main participation/competition sports, but I have loved baseball for as long as I can remember (just couldn't hit a curve). I do have a coaching minor in addition to my BSEE.

I coached waterpolo and volleyball (HS level) for several years prior to marriage, and when my oldest started his sports career (5), I started coaching his youth teams. But BB is my passion and it is now the only sport I coach and my main hobby. I have an extensive library and a whole array of training aids etc. What else is a man to spend his money on?? (I don't gamble or smoke and only drink beer and wine)

I probably write way too much and my typing skills seem dyslexic (teh instead of the etc). I say what's on my mind and what I believe, and my diplomatic skills could use a refresher coarse. That's me! (Oh I normally hate anything that's considered PC just for the sake of PC).
