Need some advice
By: Baseball Dad
It wouldn't be a joke - he might pull off a shut-out during the season, but I don't think it would be that one sided. Even in AAA, there are some good 11 year olds - just not quite good enough for our Majors teams - 2 years ago, our Majors All stars went to the LL world series (Aptos). It's a pretty good league. He can't quite hit them over the fence yet (again, he's only 9 - will play as 10 this season) but he can one or two bouce them to the fence. Maybe by the end of next season, he'll get a nice fat pitch and put it over, but he's still to small. He will get a few in the park home runs if he stays in AAA - slow, inexprienced outfielders, errors, etc - and he has the speed to do it. He's OK with not being the "stud" though. He's learned that on the 11U travel team. I'm still pretty torn. If the parents of the other 4-6 really good players his age all kept the kids back, I'd definately leave him in AAA - there would be some pitching talent left to go up against, but I think they are all going to move their kids up, which would leave our AAA division with a lot of kids comming up from minors that will average 40MPH, and only throw stikes 1/3 of the time. The travel team makes up for some of this though - he definately see's good pitching there - the 11U travel teams in the area could beat some of the LL 12 year old all star teams.
