The 5-3is an excellent defense against the run or the pass. The MLB keys the fullback and the outside lb key the tailback in I formation. If it is a split back formation then the Mlb keys the first back that the QB opens up to, the OLB key the back to there side. The nose guazrd shades the center to the strong side and the strong tackle is outsdie shoulder of the offensive tackle. The weak d tackle is in the weak b gap and the defensive ends are like the old fashioned d ends where they have contrain and does not let anybody get outsdie of the the corners will roll and a pitch or play a three deep zone.
