Weight Limits

I agree with Coach C. As a mother of a "big boy", I can tell you that it is wrong to have weight limits. I signed my son up to play in a league that allowed 8 yrs old & up. He turned 8 yrs the day of his first practice. When we signed him up, he weighed in at 99 lbs. We were told he would have to play 2 levels up (11 & 12). We're talking 3rd grade playing with 6th grade! After a week of prac-
ticing blocking for the Qback, I knew that regardless of his weight and athletic abilities, because of the age difference, there was no way he had equal strength and coordination of the older boys. I took him out of the program and told him he would have to wait until high school when his size would be appreciated. He is now a 15 yr old sophomore,6'2, 210lb, and has played the entire game, every game for the last 2 yrs at TE,RB,LB, DE, and all special teams. "Defensive Player of the Year" last year and looking good for "MVP" this year. I think a "sane" person would not consider putting their young child in a weight restricted league because they are in for a rude awakening when they get to high school and have to line up with the big boys! Thank God I took my son out, because he has no problem crashing through the 300 lb linemen and crushing the little guys who have spent years being protected from him instead of learning how to play against him. I believe that when it comes to football "If you can't play with the Big Boys, Stay in the bleachers"! I would like to know, when did being big become a disadvantage in football?
