Hre: Defending against the sweep

Coaching Defense against teams who run a lot of options, sweeps and pitches in order to utilize the speed of the backfield, I would agree with both Coach Wade (good, disciplined player) and Coach Nutenbutt (technique). Currently, we run a 6-3 with a lot of stunting on the inside. No matter what defense we are running, the defensive ends have the same assignments. So many defenses like to have their ends slam inside (they tend to get beat to the outside). By having our defensive ends set up as Coach N. stated to the outside of the outside shoulder of the last man on the line, we have them charge forward 3-5 yards and sit keeping their outside shoulder free. This technique has allowed us to turn 85% of the outside plays up field to the inside allowing the rest of the defense to get into the action.

Of course, this works for us and may not work for everyone, but success is success.
