haha...sure...when i started coaching in 93, our league was 5th/6th...they dropped the 5th graders in 95...5th graders were allowed to join, if they wanted but werent "encouraged" to...last year there were 3 in the entire league (we had one of them)
this year they were again
"encouraged" to join...there were about 50...we had 11....
im sure youre boys WANT to play football, and WANT to tackle...thats not the problem...im sure you have fine boys....but the problem with most 5th graders, is they dont want to PRACTICE, they just want to play (goof around), and keeping their attention for longer than a couple mins is the biggest challenge for a coach (the games are easy)....and when you have a bunch of them together...........maybe im just getting old.....but i prefer the much more "mature" 6th/7th graders...i think kids under 10 should be encouraged to be kids..run, play have fun in the backyard, and playgrounds...not be put into "controlled" situations like that...theres plenty of time for that....thats my opinion (and all i EVER wanted to do at that age, was play baseball, and football too)
