GAM vs. spread offense

I've been coaching for several years, but recently inherited a team that has been playing the GAM D for a couple of years. I am the hc/oc. We are playing a team in the playoffs this year that we have seen before this year. (If you are wondering why we are starting playoffs so early in the year, I live in Alaska. It's getting darker earlier and cold.) We have done very well with our D, except against this particular team. They put up 26 on us. Fortunately we scored 35.

Any suggestions on how to stop a QB who has the quickest feet and fastest legs I've ever seen at 11? They will split three receivers wide (12-20 yards) to one side and then run the sweep and off tackle with the QB. Sometimes they even send another receiver to the weak side at 12-15 yards. This spreads us very thin even though I only send my MLB halfway out with CB's to cover the trips set. I figure I'll take my chances on the pass. We have some really good tacklers who bring the house and are fast. The problem is that the QB is so quick there is nowhere to put the house.

The only two things we have come up with is to put a real playmaker on the D line and then step him back to shadow the QB in certain situations. Also, send the ends to the sweep spot and crash from there. The first cenario leaves us weak in the middle, and the latter creates problems with contain.

Can someone help!? I'm pulling the rest of my hair out!!! Trust me, there wasn't much to start with.

Thanks,

Coach Whitt
